Charlotte Harbor Tarpon Fishing
In July after I return from fishing for tarpon in the Everglades.
July and early August my home waters of Charlotte Harbor has an incredible juvenile tarpon fishery.
In late June the smaller residents, 10-40#, come out of their river and deep water canal haunts. They move to the shallow flats to feed. It puts them in the perfect position to intercept them with a fly rod. July and August is the perfect time to chase them.
On a 7-9 weight fly rod these smaller tarpon fight with the same fire as the larger fish. Most fish are in the air more than in the water.
We generally fish early mornings and short days to beat the heat.
For me it is all about the tarpon…
It always has been.
